I’m guessing you’ve heard the term “self-care” before, right? Like sinking into a warm bubble bath, scribbling in a journal before bed, or maybe meditating quietly. These are all perfect self-care practices anyone can do. Yet, have you ever thought of social connection as self-care?
That’s right, hanging out with friends, catching up with family members, or even chatting with a stranger, are actually incredible practices of self-care that can benefit your health and overall wellbeing. It’s one of the most amazing ways to improve your mood, both when in the company of others but also in the aftermath of the time spent socializing.
And it’s so true!
How many times have you had an amazing connection with someone and every time you think of it, it warms your heart and makes you feel happy? Just like me in this moment, I’m sitting at this coffee shop remembering that just a few short days ago I had an amazing connection with someone new and every time I think of her it brightens my day.
So, if you are looking for a great self-practice…reach out and connect with someone! Not only will it be a mood boost, but spending time and connecting with people can also…
- Inspire and motivate
- Build self-esteem
- Teach empathy and acceptance
- Create a sense of valued self
- Reinforce a sense of identity
- Decrease stress levels
And the rewards don’t stop there….
If you fill your life with a positive social network you can live longer, healthier lives, and when we feel better physically, we feel better mentally and emotionally!
So, my suggestion today…is to get out there and socialize!
